The High Commission of India in Nicosia has issued a public notice making apostille certification mandatory for supporting documents submitted with certain consular applications. Applications for registration of a birth in Cyprus, registration of death, and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards will now only be accepted if Cyprus-issued supporting documents โ€” such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and certificates relating to citizenship, nationality or residence status โ€” have been duly apostilled.

Where to get it: the Ministry of Justice and Public Order's Department of Apostille Certifications, which has counters in Nicosia and Limassol, open weekdays from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM (in Nicosia, the last queue number is handed out at 2:00 PM). Each document costs โ‚ฌ5. If a certificate isn't in English, for example if it's in Greek, you'll also need a certified English translation. The High Commission will send back any application that arrives without apostilled papers, so sort out your Apostille first and only then book your consular visit.

Consular applications are accepted at the High Commission of India, No. 3, Indira Gandhi Street, Montparnasse Hill, Engomi, Nicosia, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. For queries, contact +357 22 351170 (or +357 99 613791 for emergencies) or email cons.nicosia@mea.gov.in.
