Indians in Cyprus ("we", "us") publishes indiansincyprus.com as a community news, culture and events site. This page explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how we use cookies.
Who we are
indiansincyprus.com is run by the Indians in Cyprus team, a community initiative based in Cyprus. We are responsible for the personal data described on this page. For any privacy question or request, email contact@indiansincyprus.com.
What we collect, and why
- Content submissions: if you use the "Submit content" form, we store your name, email address and message so our editors can review it and follow up. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us and publishing community news.
- Admin accounts: editors and admins have login accounts used to manage the site. This doesn't apply to ordinary visitors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the site securely.
- Analytics: only if you accept analytics cookies (see below). Legal basis: your consent.
We don't currently run a newsletter or collect email addresses for one. If we start one, we'll ask for your consent first and update this page before we do.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with third parties except the service providers that run our infrastructure (see below).
How long we keep it
- Submissions: up to 7 years. Published content stays on the site as part of our archive.
- Admin accounts: for as long as the person has an editor role.
- Analytics data: kept by Google Analytics for 14 months, the maximum period Google allows.
Cookies
| Type | Purpose | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Keeps editors and admins signed in to manage the site, and remembers your cookie choice. | No, strictly necessary for the site to function. |
| Analytics | Google Analytics: helps us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, approximate location, device type). Google may process this data under its own privacy policy. | Yes, only loads if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. |
Changing your mind: you can change or withdraw your cookie choice at any time using the link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything processed before you withdrew it.
Where data is processed
The site runs on Vercel (hosting), Neon (database) and Resend (email delivery). Each processes data on our behalf under its own security and privacy terms. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also processes some data under Google's privacy policy.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are protected by approved safeguards, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- correct it if it's wrong
- delete it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- receive it in a portable format (data portability)
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To make a request, email contact@indiansincyprus.com. We'll reply within one month.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to Cyprus's supervisory authority, the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (dataprotection.gov.cy).
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
