How well do you really know India? And could your children beat you at it? There's now an easy way to find out. India's Ministry of External Affairs has relaunched its popular Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) quiz as BharatVerse, a free game you can play any day of the year, and the High Commission of India in Cyprus is inviting everyone on the island to join in.

What is BharatVerse?

Bharat Ko Janiye began as a once-a-year contest for the Indian diaspora and friends of India. BharatVerse turns it into an always-open platform with something new to try every day. According to the High Commission, it includes:

  • daily quizzes and themed challenges, on topics from Indian music and cricket to food and festivals;
  • brain-teasers such as word searches and crosswords, alongside other games;
  • a scoring system with rankings and digital prizes, and a way to bring friends in to play with you.

You can play in a web browser at bkjquiz.com or download the app for iPhone or Android. It is meant for anyone aged 13 or over, and the website says it is free, with nothing to buy.

A Diwali Special Quiz, 3 to 10 November

From 3 to 10 November 2026 there's a Diwali Special Quiz, with questions about how India celebrates, its customs and its heritage. It's a fun one to do as a family over the Diwali weekend.

Coming next: a chance to win a trip to India

The High Commission says the next challenge will be a special quiz linked to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the Indian government's big gathering for the diaspora. Its prize is a 10-day trip to India that includes taking part in the convention itself. This time the convention, its 19th edition, takes place in Kolkata on 7, 8 and 9 January 2027. The dates and rules for this quiz haven't been published yet, so keep an eye on the app and the High Commission's social media.

What this means for you

  • For teenagers: it's a gentle way to learn about India's history, states and culture, and the leaderboards add a bit of healthy competition.
  • For parents: play the Diwali quiz together; it's a natural way to talk about why we celebrate and how families mark the festival across India.
  • For Cypriot friends: the High Commission is inviting all friends of India in Cyprus, so share the link with colleagues and neighbours who are curious about India.
  • Getting started: go to bkjquiz.com or search for BharatVerse in your app store, create a profile and pick a quiz.
  • One small note: the poster shows a phone screen with old 2024 contest dates. Those belong to an earlier edition; the Diwali quiz dates are 3 to 10 November 2026.
