Cyprus's Gujarati community held its first grand-scale celebration of Gujarat Statehood Day on 1st May, drawing more than 150 guests to the Parklane Resort & Spa in Limassol for the state's 66th anniversary.

The event was organised by the Gujarati Samaj, founded by Dipak Kumar, Dharmesh Yadav, Pradip Tiwari and Chaitas Shah, with support from the Help2Live Charity Foundation. It followed a conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dipak Kumar during the PM's visit to Cyprus in June 2025.

Guests included Shri Subhash Jangala (First Secretary for Economic Affairs) and Shri Lokesh Kumar (Attaché for PS/Culture) from India's High Commission, and Cyprus businessman Savvas Hadjikyriacou.

The programme ran from children performing the prayer "Achyutam Keshavam" through Garba and Bollywood dance, sand art depicting Gujarat's history, and a laser and bubble show set to Gujarati music. A buffet of Gujarati and Indian dishes served guests from Cyprus, Greece, Poland and Italy, and the night closed with fireworks over Limassol.

Speakers also traced Gujarat's wider influence through figures including Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PM Modi, Dhirubhai Ambani and Jamsetji Tata.

"For the first time in Cyprus, the entire Gujarati community has come together to celebrate our roots in grand fashion," organisers said.
